Iris Bolton.  Considered a "classic in the field."  Survivors consistently give this book high ratings and excellent reviews.  It is of tremendous comfort for most readers.  Iris Bolton tells the story of the loss of her own son and the journey she traveled.  This healing book brings a message of hope for those who mourn.  

 

Suicide of a Child


Adina Wrobleski. This is a small, easy-to-read book, (one reader described it as a “pamphlet”.) Written for parents whose child has completed suicide, the book goes foes into detail about victimization, social stigma, guilt, anger, history and recovery. It reminds parents that they are not to blame.

Do They Have Bad Days in Heaven? Surviving the Suicide Loss of a Sibling

Michelle Linn-Gust. This is a comprehensive resource for sibling suicide survivors. The author takes the reader through the personal experience of losing her younger sister and explains how sibling death impacts the brothers and sisters left behind. The author weaves in the available research for sibling survivors and addresses sibling loss through the life span.


 

An Empty Chair: Living in the Wake of a Sibling's Suicide


Sara Swan Miller. This book addresses the grief and bewilderment of surviving siblings, which is often ignored. The accounts of siblings' experiences in this book are based on interviews with more than thirty people from all over the United States, as well as the author's own experience of losing a sister to suicide. Sibling relationships are varied and complex. The feelings and experiences covered reported by survivors also are varied, running a gamut from deep grief, to anger, to guilt, to relief. Often these feelings are intermixed. Readers report that the accounts of other sibling survivors in this book helped them feel less alone.

 No Time to Say Goodbye: Surviving The Suicide Of A Loved One

Carla Fine. The author, who survived the suicide of her husband, offers advice for those recovering from the suicide of a marital partner, relative or close friend. Drawing on research, interviews with survivors and her own experience, Fine provides insights into living beyond this tragedy including dealing with feelings of guilt and anger, the stigma of suicide and financial and legal problems, and she tells where to get help.

 Before Their Time: Adult Children's Experiences of Parental Suicide

Mary Stimming and  Maureen Stimming.  This book presents adult children survivors' accounts of their loss, grief, and resolution following a parent's suicide. Topics such as the impact of the parent's suicide on adult children's personal and professional choices, marriages and parenting, sibling and surviving parent relationships are explored.  The writers describe feelings of regret and responsibility related to their parent's suicide. They express concern about other family members' vulnerability to suicide. They speak openly about the fears and stresses they face and how they cope with them.
